Mira Mesa, California was originally a military town established in the 1950s for families of military men and women stationed at Miramar Naval Air Station within the City of San Diego.  The base has been converted to a Marine Corps facility and the town has evolved into a thriving area with industry, community activities and many family residences.  It is bordered by Highway 15 to the east, Highway 805 to the west, the Los Penasquitos Canyon to the north and the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar to the south.  At the west end, the Sorrento Valley business and technology park is a major employer.  The climate is mild which enables residents and visitors to enjoy the many outdoor activities of golf, tennis, swimming, hiking, jogging and walking.  There are many opportunities to enjoy the  variety of shopping centers, restaurants, theaters and retail shops.  If you're just looking to get out and enjoy nature, a bike ride or a hike through The Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve may be just what you are looking for.

The Mira Mesa Street Fair is held the first Saturday in October just west of Mira Mesa Community Park. On the Fourth of July, a spectacular parade runs through Mira Mesa on Mira Mesa Boulevard, then turns on Camino Ruiz. In the evening a fireworks display is set off from Mira Mesa High School. Each Saturday, the Mira Mesa Scripps Ranch Sentinel is published with community news and events.
